  • Great Idea, But Ultimately a Failed Design

Golf is my passion, and premium knives are my latest obsession, which is how I stumbled upon this knife. As just a pocket knife, the materials are great; a solid premium steel blade (not thin or flimsy, it can handle any cutting tasks you need it for), and the custom carbon fiber handle is beautiful and functional, and the flipper action is smooth and solid.. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end.

First major problem. This is designed to be a right handed knife, and if you use the pocket clip as intended with clip on the outside of your pocket, and actual knife inside the pocket, then the outside edge of the bottle opener (the solid pointy metal part) is going to tear up the backside of your hand every time you go to put/pull something from your pocket. The bottle opener is unnecessary, and completely ruined the golf functionality for me.. if they had to put it on the knife, it would have to be flipped upside down for where the pocket clip has to go. I can’t believe an experienced knife designer would miss this, and the business side didn’t realize when trying them out this obvious fatal flaw. I guess that’s why this company no longer exists. It had so much potential to be good.

Second major problem, the ball marker housing. It is a great idea to put stronger magnets on the ball marker so it won’t pop out unless you want it to. However, it has another poor design with unnecessarily extra strong magnets. I’ve watched all the videos showing you how to open it, making it look simple. I don’t think it is just my knife that makes the ball marker nearly impossible to get out of its housing without having to press extremely hard at an incredibly awkward angle while it is in your pocket. This could have been easily addressed by making the very small cutout under the ball marker that is meant to provide your thumb leverage to push down on making the opposite side pop up to slide the ball marker out. As it is, this makes the ball marker completely useless. They over engineered trying to keep the ball marker in place instead of real world functionality. The ones you see in the videos using the “specially designed corner to allow you to press upward onto the ball marker for a simple release is a joke. They must have had weaker magnets, because I have had 20 people try it, and it simply isn’t possible with the strength if the magnets and very small cutout underneath. I noticed in the video “reviews” that are actually just promotional videos, they cutout anything from the videos where they actually try to remove the ball marker. Even without that technique and just pressing down on the area over the cutout is difficult. I am dumbfounded by the poor design of this simple and critical element. It just creates frustration on the greens.

Third major problem, the divot tool. With all of the over engineering, this was not engineered with with much thought. First, the thumb tab to open this feature requires you to open it up, then turn it around just to use it, but I’m willing to overlook that. The biggest design flaw is that the tool does not lock into place when fully extended. So if you even come close to applying pressure towards the direction it just came from, it just folds back in so that it doesn’t go into the ground making it a useless frustration. I also let others try this out, and trying to repair a divot from a full wedge shot and just trying to insert the tool into the ground to get below the divot caused left and right handers to send it right back towards the closed position. Again, this golf feature is poorly designed and thought out, making it a frustration instead of a benefit.

So, I cannot recommend this knife as a golf tool AT ALL. It looks cool, and has great materials for a pocket knife, but every one of the features to make this a “golf knife” are so poorly designed and engineered that this product is a complete failure in every way. It is beyond me how this very short-lived company got investor’s to put money behind this product in the first place when all these flaws are so bad that you notice them the first time you try to use it. I forced myself to use it every hole for one round to give it a chance. I will never use this knife on the golf course again. It is now an outrageously expensive letter opener/paper weight. I encourage you to not waste your money. I only generously gave this 2 stars for the premium steel blade and carbon fiber on the handle, even though it deserves less than 1 star for the whole purpose of this knife…a golf tool. Maybe one day it will be worth something for the limited amount produced of the worst designed golf tool ever made.
